  • Remote
  • 30 - 45 USD an hour

We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Owner to help lead the continued development and enhancement of an established digital marketplace platform serving the eye care industry.

The Marketplace connects eye care practices, patients, and third-party vendors through an integrated e-commerce platform. The platform supports the broader commerce lifecycle, including product catalogs, pricing, patient accounts, ordering, payments, fulfillment, vendor integrations, promotions, and reporting.

This role sits at the intersection of business operations, customer experience, e-commerce, third-party integrations, and software delivery. You will work closely with business stakeholders, engineering, UX/UI, QA, and external partners to understand Marketplace needs, establish priorities, define requirements, and guide functionality through development and release.

This is a hands-on product ownership role rather than a project coordination position. Success requires strong product judgment, technical aptitude, excellent communication, and the ability to translate business objectives and user needs into clear, actionable work for software development teams.

What You Will Do

You will own and prioritize product work for the Marketplace and help ensure the development team is focused on delivering the highest-value functionality.

  • Own, maintain, and prioritize the Marketplace product backlog based on business objectives, customer needs, technical dependencies, and platform priorities.

  • Work with business stakeholders to understand Marketplace opportunities, problems, requirements, and desired outcomes.

  • Translate business and user needs into well-defined features, user stories, acceptance criteria, workflows, and supporting documentation.

  • Lead backlog refinement and work closely with engineering and QA throughout sprint planning, development, testing, and release.

  • Provide timely product decisions and requirements clarification to keep development teams moving efficiently.

  • Develop a strong understanding of Marketplace functionality, business rules, system interactions, integrations, and dependencies.

  • Define and improve experiences for eye care practices, patients, vendors, and internal business users.

  • Define requirements supporting vendor catalog ingestion, product data management, product availability, and practice-level product selection.

  • Define and maintain requirements for wholesale cost, practice-controlled retail pricing, margins, discounts, promotions, and other pricing-related business rules.

  • Own requirements across the commerce lifecycle, including product discovery, patient accounts, carts, checkout, payments, orders, fulfillment, returns, and customer communications.

  • Define requirements for integrations with vendors and external systems, including APIs, data exchanges, synchronization processes, error handling, and expected system behaviors.

  • Partner with UX/UI resources to create intuitive experiences for practices, patients, vendors, and internal users.

  • Evaluate requested functionality against customer value, business priorities, technical complexity, dependencies, and existing platform capabilities.

  • Identify edge cases and understand how changes in one part of the Marketplace may affect other users, workflows, integrations, or business rules.

  • Coordinate requirements and dependencies across Marketplace functionality, engineering teams, external vendors, and business stakeholders.

  • Participate in testing and validation to ensure delivered functionality meets requirements and expected business outcomes.

  • Use stakeholder feedback, customer behavior, product data, and operational needs to identify opportunities for continued platform improvement.

  • Clearly communicate priorities, decisions, requirements, risks, and dependencies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
